NASPO ValuePoint

Utah State Capitol

Hughes is the first and only satellite broadband provider to be added to the NASPO ValuePoint contract, and subsequently, the first provider to offer FCC-defined broadband tier speeds of at least 25 Mbps from coast to coast. Hughes was selected to provide its HughesNet Gen5 Business Internet, which is now available to the states participating on the contract vehicle.

HughesNet Gen5 is ideal for connecting government locations that are unserved or underserved by wireline services like cable and fiber. This includes park stations, rural offices, and environmental monitoring outposts. Satellite also adds an additional layer to emergency networks by serving as a lifeline when local infrastructure is compromised in the event of a natural disaster or network outage.

How Does Satellite Broadband Work?

Satellite broadband works just like other internet services for end users. There is a small modem, with built-in wi-fi, that will be inside, connected to a computer. There is also a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) antenna that will go outside, mounted either on a pole or roof which will connect the computer and modem to the satellite network operations center (NOC) gateway.
