From earthquakes to tornadoes or floods, disasters can happen anytime and anywhere. It is imperative that 9-1-1 emergency infrastructure is equipped with true network path diversity so that if a disaster does strike, citizens are still able to connect with emergency operators. 9-1-1 and Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) network and backhaul systems rely on primary terrestrial network paths. However, should those paths become compromised; thousands can be left at risk with no way to reach emergency services like police, fire fighters and EMT’s. Hughes’ Spaceway 3 Satellite technology can eliminate the risk of 9-1-1 outages by adding alternate network path connectivity with automatic failover switching, should a terrestrial network path ever become disrupted. By incorporating satellite to the 9-1-1 ecosystem, network administrators can ensure their infrastructure has the resiliency necessary to handle any call volume in the face of a major emergency situation.
